Cool weather now in Texas. I plan to pick up progress on the hull build. I have some time off here at the end of the year but I have been doing some CNC machining and have a big job for the HB2.

Just a little planking left on the Dauntless hull then comes the finish smoothing and the fiber-glassing. My Miapoxy is here!

Horizontal Planking Installed

All the horizontal plank strips have been installed and initial shape sanding in that area has been completed. Glue ups always look awful but a little sanding make them look much better.

Whats left to do is the vertical planking… Continue reading

Putting the Clamps On

I bought $50.00 worth of Irwin clamps today. That’s enough cash for six of them. I have been using the bigger clamps as can be seen in other photos. Yep, should have bought these sooner as they are a good… Continue reading

Making Asides

Back to work on the sides. The weather is still very hot so it speeds up the epoxy somewhat. Working time for 30 minute resin is about 15 minutes. In a way that helps speed along the build.

Each side… Continue reading

The Right Touch

Dauntless is setting right smack dab (I like that phrase) in the middle of my workshop. It can be seen in most of the pictures of my other projects. I could say I at least touch it once a day.… Continue reading

Hull Ramblings 5/12

Hull construction is laborious. Using epoxy causes delays while the glue sets. I don’t use fast set 5 minute epoxy as I need more working time. So I will only work on the project when I think I have a… Continue reading

My Bare Bottom

This is a very “raw” finish of the bottom planking. Lots of work yet to do but all the wood is now on the bottom portion of the hull. I have sanded the high spots a bit but I have… Continue reading

Slow Poke

dsc00120 That’s me all right, a slow poke. I haven’t been jumping on this project as much as I intended when I started it. I have lots of excuses of course but none that even I believe. So I will not… Continue reading

A Hull of a Job

More work on planking the forward part of the hull. This is the part of the work where the builder has to force wood to go where it doesn’t want to go. There are no instructions on how to do… Continue reading

Hull Planking

First step is to shape the chine strips to match the frames. This took some time even using 80 grit sandpaper. I wore a dust mask I no longer can tolerate inhaling sawdust or in this case sanding dust.

The… Continue reading

Bending Chine Strips

It has been a bit of a dry spell in the building of the Dauntless. That’s not very good when the project is a boat. The bones of the hull have been setting in plain sight and the assembly is… Continue reading
