Current Activity

Cool weather now in Texas. I plan to pick up progress on the hull build. I have some time off here at the end of the year but I have been doing some CNC machining and have a big job for the HB2.

Just a little planking left on the Dauntless hull then comes the finish smoothing and the fiber-glassing. My Miapoxy is here!

Remote Conning System

A nautical term for remote control of a boat or ship.

C3 Propeller

I have my new Parallax C3 Propeller micro computer running (or is it spinning?) and put it through its initial tests. It is accepting a standard keyboard input and outputting to a small NTSC video screen. It also has a… Continue reading

More Brains

I just made another investment in the hardware for the Remote Conning System (RCS). I sent a big order to Parallax for more computer goodies. Here is the list:

2-Axis Joystick 27800
4×4 Matrix Membrane Keypad 27899
Compass Module 3-Axis… Continue reading

RCS – Remote Conning System

I have coined an acronym for the remote nautical control system I am designing and constructing for my roboboat project. I am calling it (as least for now) an RCS which stands for Remote Conning System. It… Continue reading

Another Baby Step

test2

It has been a great weekend. The weather in Texas finally broke this morning (Labor Day 2011) as it was 68 degrees on my back porch this morning. The wind had been blowing hard all day before and the night… Continue reading

The XBee Meets the Propeller

I got some time this Labor Day weekend (2011) to get an XBee  interfaced with the Propeller processor. The pictures show the tiny interface board required to change the pin spacing from the XBee to fit the spacing on the… Continue reading

HB-25 Motor Controllers

As you can see I have two of the Parallax HB-25 Dc motor controllers now on my workbench. They are rated at 6 to 16 volts (DC) at 25 amps. That should be rugged enough. I figure I only need… Continue reading

Hot Props

Prop2

The Texas heat is killing me in the unconditioned shop. It is keeping me away from experimenting with the Xbee and the Parallax Propeller (computer). The inside temperature in the garage shop has been hovering at 100 degrees while the… Continue reading

The Propeller

I can say the Propeller is on the bench.  But not the one that spins in the water.  This is the Propeller that will serve as the brains of the project.  The Parallax Propeller computer chip is actually the larger… Continue reading

XBees Are Buzzing

They’re alive! I tell you they are alive!

I got two of the XBee’s talking to each other tonight. The usual things like “Hello World” and counting from 1 to 20. Not much you’re thinking but it is another milestone… Continue reading

Get to the Point

I said in a previous post my good old standard 15-30 watt soldering iron wasn’t up to the task at hand. The pictures here show the comparison between the old iron and the brand new small point 12 watt iron.… Continue reading
